Being Young in Asia

Being Young in Asia is an examination of popular culture as encountered in the East Asian countries of China, Japan, and South Korea. The course involves readings from primary texts, discussion of ideas in the texts both orally and in writing, and instruction in analytical and argumentative writing. As a First Year Experience, students will learn the ability to analyze and interpret sophisticated texts and ideas through (1) analytical and argumentative writing, (2) reasoned discussion of substantive issues, (3) oral presentations, and (4) locating and evaluating diverse information sources to enhance their understanding of course materials.
